MEET DR RON BINETTER

Dr. Ron Binetter, is one of the most experienced Cataract and LASIK surgeons in Australia.

He has performed over 14,000 Cataract and Lens Implant procedures and over 22,000 LASIK procedures.

Many of his administrative and nursing staff and their families have had Cataract and Lens Implant or LASIK procedures performed by Dr. Binetter.

Dr. Binetter graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales. He underwent specialist ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital and was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 1990 and the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1991.

In the early 1990’s a revolution in cataract surgery occurred with the introduction of phacoemulsification (small incision cataract surgery). Cataract surgery transitioned from traditional large incision surgery to small incision surgery.

Dr Binetter was one of the earliest surgeons to adopt this new technology. He routinely used small incision, sutureless cataract surgery combined with the implantation of foldable intraocular lenses years before it was popularized.

Then in 1995, with the emergence of the Excimer Laser and Laser Eye Surgery, Dr Binetter travelled to the USA for Fellowship training in LASIK. He trained with the world’s best surgeons, Dr Stephen Slade in Texas and Dr Jeff Machat in Toronto, Canada. He instructs other surgeons in Cataract and Lens Implant procedures and LASIK.

Dr Binetter is a founding member of the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and holds memberships to the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

I have studied ophthalmology and practised as an eye surgeon for nearly 20 years. I only choose the best and most reliable methods. All my work has been about helping people like you maintain, retain and correct their vision. It’s my entire professional life.

An eye-surgery pioneer

As well as being a pioneer in sutureless cataract surgery and foldable lenses, Dr Ron Binetter was, in the mid-1990s, one of the first eye microsurgeons to be certified to perform LASIK in Australia.

To date, Dr Binetter has personally performed more than 23,000 LASIK procedures and over 15,000 cataract and lens-Implant procedures.

While Dr Binetter is committed to excellent surgical outcomes, he also understands that any procedure involving the eye can be concerning for a patient. It is why, along with being an international leader in eye health, he is still a caring and attentive physician who makes sure you are informed, empowered and comfortable at all stages throughout your treatment.

Imagine a field of medicine where you can impact a patient’s life for the rest of their life in about 15 to 20 minutes. That’s what I get to do each week.

International reputation

Dr Ron Binetter was personally trained overseas by Dr Stephen Slade – part of the team who, in 1991, performed the very first LASIK treatment in the United States.

When Dr Binetter returned to Australia in the mid-1990s, this unique experience established his reputation as one of the only LASIK experts in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

As LASIK has become more mainstream over the past 20 years, Dr Binetter has continually trained to improve his skills and affirm his presence as a LASIK leader.

Today, he regularly sees patients who have travelled from as far away as Hong Kong and Fiji specifically for his unmatched expertise. He currently holds memberships or fellowships with several eye-surgery bodies around the world.
